“Part of my preparation is I go and ask the kit man what colour we’re wearing – if it’s red top, white shorts, white socks or black socks. Then I lie in bed the night before the game and visualise myself scoring goals or doing well.”
– Wayne Rooney
Recently we’ve been looking at what we can learn from the way great sportsmen and women achieve success.
One of the most powerful tools many of them use is the power of visualisation. If you’re not sure what that is, today we have a video which demonstrates the amazing power WE ALL HAVE to create the situations and circumstances we want in our lives.
Why is this so crucial? Because it shows how fundamentally important the principle of Personal Vision is to achieving what we want. If we don’t see it in our imagination, if we don’t believe that we can get that job, earn that amount of money or overcome that fear that’s holding us back, how will we ever do it?
The video powerfully demonstrates the science behind why it is so crucial for us to continually develop our core beliefs, attitudes and outlook about what we can achieve. As I mentioned in yesterday’s email about Steve Redgrave – If you want a positive outcome you must develop a positive vision!
As you watch, let me ask you this…
- If you were to visualise yourself doing, being or achieving one thing in your life right now, what would it be? Would it be more confidence? More self-belief? A more fulfilling job or your ideal partner perhaps?

We Have to SEE What We Want to Achieve BEFORE We Can DO the Things We Want to Do!
If you speak to any successful person in almost any field, they will tell you that they began to dream, imagine or visualise themselves being who they wanted to be; an Olympic champion, a great footballer or maybe a great actor, when they were young. Why? Because as the video shows even if we want to build a great family we need to see it for ourselves first, we need to think about it over and over again, visualise it in detail and then begin to take the action steps that will bring it about. This is where the other 7 principles of effectiveness come in to guide us (we’ll explain what they are soon).
Above all though, the starting point is in our own minds. The problem is that approximately 98% of the thoughts we think are often repetitive and essentially useless!! Often filled with worry or doubt. So is there any wonder why many people create overly negative outcomes in their lives? They are using the principle of Personal Vision, but not using it enough for what they want. The key then is to:
1. Continually imagine, write and think about who we want to be and what we want to do in our lives – while…
2. Becoming more aware of how our old Personal Vision (our limiting beliefs and attitudes) holds us back.
